The increase in the bacterial resistance and the severe problems that it involves requires the development of novel mechanisms of action, different from those of antibiotics, for fighting infections. The present invention relates to the method for obtaining a mixture of four anacardic acids having a molecular weight of 304, 332, 360 and 386, present in the cortex of Amphipterygium adstringens and the use thereof for reducing the bacterial virulence by inhibiting bacterial quorum sensing systems. The mixture of anacardic acids is able to attenuate the phenotypes in a collection strain and four pan-resistant clinical isolates, also having the characteristic of not being toxic. The mechanism displayed by the mixture of anacardic acids does not interfere with the bacterial viability, which avoids resistance unlike antibiotics.
