713,075. Soil-less plant cultivation. PERIN, G. April 4, 1951, No. 7833/51. Class 6 (2) Soil-less cultivation of plants is effected in apparatus wherein warm air, at super-atmospheric pressure and charged with carbon dioxide, is circulated, preferably with a pressure of 1-3 atmospheres and a concentration of 8 per cent of carbon dioxide. The apparatus comprises a cabinet 1 in which are arranged two tiers of trays 3 containing a soil-less cultivating-medium, and surmounted by water containers 4. A fan 8 in a chamber on the top of the cabinet draws fresh air from a pipe 10 and forces it down through a heat-exchanger 7 into the cabinet, the exchanger 7 being heated by combustion gases from a stove 15. A part of the gases is drawn off and mixed with the air passing into the cabinet, the remainder being returned to the stove by the pipe 13. The air and gases after circulating round the cabinet are withdrawn through pipes 11, mixed with further air and gases, and recirculated, A valve 16 regulates the circulation, and a thermostat 19 controls the operation of the fan according to the temperature of the cabinet. |
