The sensor (1) has a controllable frequency generator (3) generating output voltage (4) or output current. An evaluation coil (5) is formed to activate a sensor oscillating circuit (2). The evaluation coil is activated by the generated output voltage or the output current. A detector (6) detects resonance frequency of the sensor oscillating circuit by the evaluation coil and controls the frequency generator based on the detected resonance frequency. The detector determines a current value (8) i.e. digital value, of a physical parameter by the detected resonance frequency. The detector is formed as a program controlled device. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting a physical parameter.
