PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for inputting characters using tapping on the multi touch screen are provided to enable users to put hands on the multi touch screen between inputs of characters and to take a rest in case the users need to input characters for a long time, and to prevent the unintended input of a character. CONSTITUTION: A touch display (110) outputs information to a screen and detects touch and release by a user. A processor (200) executes a process, generates information related to input using the touch display based on the touch and the release, and transmits the generated information to the process. If the touch is maintained over a first threshold value, the processor regards the touch as a touch cancellation.
