The cylinder unit has a base body, where a hollow cylinder is arranged for incorporating melted mass. The base body has a heating unit for supplying heat in the hollow cylinder. The hollow cylinder has an outlet opening for discharge of the melted mass from the hollow cylinder. A piston (04) is movable in the hollow cylinder for acting on the melted mass with a mold pressure. The piston has an inner hollow space (16) along an axis for conveying a coolant. The piston has a coolant inlet extending into the inner hollow space on an end outside the hollow cylinder. An independent claim is included for a method for determining the rheological properties of melted mass.
