The cooler has a fan unit (5) exhibiting nominal operating voltage. A radiator (6) is coupled with the fan unit for cooling a coolant circuit that is adapted to cool a driving assembly using a cooling liquid. The nominal voltage is different from nominal voltage of an electrical supply network of a motor vehicle. A control device (7) controls application of the voltages at the peripheral units of the fan unit according to temperature of the cooling liquid. A power-supply system (8) feeds the fan unit and includes an alternator. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling operation of a fan unit.
