PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a metal surface against detrimental effects of carburization in an extremely corrosive atmosphere and high temperatures that are involved in a chemical manufacturing process.SOLUTION: Coating composed of essentially KO, SiO, and AlO, having a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of at least 80x10/°C is applied to a metal surface to isolate the metal surface that attracts carbon particles in a chemical manufacturing process. The coating is composed of a ceramic having a predominant leucite crystalline phase and formed in-situ on the metal surface from reactions involving a glass. |
