PURPOSE: A frame format conversion method and an apparatus using the same are provided to utilize Advanced 3D content without the change of a communication layer by transferring an Advanced 3D video through an existing MVC encoder/decoder. CONSTITUTION: A multiview video compression (MVC) decoder of a frame format conversion apparatus decodes an MVC frame encoded by an MVC encoder (S700). A second format converter converts the encoded MVC frame into Advanced 3D content (S710). The frame format conversion apparatus performs view synthesis based on the Advanced 3D content (S720). The frame format conversion apparatus outputs a synthesized video (S730).
