PURPOSE: A depth image processing apparatus and a method thereof are provided to improve picture quality of a depth image in a three dimensional compression system, by generating a recovery depth image by performing filter computation for a compressed depth image. CONSTITUTION: An input unit (210) receives a compressed depth image (240) and a compressed color image (250). A computation unit (220) computes a first kernel value using the compressed depth image, and computes a second kernel value using the compressed color image. A processing unit (230) generates a recovery depth image (260), by performing range filter computation for the compressed depth image on the basis of the first and the second kernel value.
