PURPOSE: Display device and character edition method are provided to select a specific character and conveniently edit by editing a string by edition unit according to a command of a user. CONSTITUTION: An input unit (110) receives a user command. A control unit (130) selects a string including a selected character when a selection command with respect to at least one character is inputted. The control unit classifies the string into predetermined edition unit and displays the string. The control unit edits the string selected by the predetermined edition unit according to the user command for character edition. A display unit (120) displays a plurality of characters through the input unit. The display unit displays the string classified by the predetermined edition unit into a separate icon type.
