PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition for promoting healing following tissue injury in a subject.SOLUTION: The pharmaceutical composition includes an isolated nucleic acid encoding a polypeptide consisting of the carboxy-terminal most 4 to 30 contiguous amino acids of an alpha connexin or a variant thereof having at least 90% identity to the contiguous amino acids. The encoded polypeptide does not include alpha connexin protein and the encoded polypeptide increases the extent of gap junctional channel aggregates formed from connexins.
