PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively extract valid components included in information which is obtained from a document image scanned by a document camera or the like and used for estimating an inclination angle of the document image, when estimating the inclination angle of the document image.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises: an image data input unit 22 which acquires a captured image; an edge extraction unit 32 which extracts edge pixels from the captured image; a line segment extraction unit 33 which extracts a plurality of line segments on the basis of the edge pixels; an inclination angle estimation unit 34 which estimates an inclination angle of the captured image by subjecting the inclination angles of the plurality of line segments to statistical processing; and an image rotation unit 35 which rotates the captured image on the basis of the estimated inclination angle. The inclination angle estimation unit determines the connecting state of end points of respective line segments with one or a plurality of other line segments; and when at least one of the end points of a line segment of a connection state determination target exists within a predetermined range of distance from other line segments, extracts the line segment of the determination target to be subjected to the statistical processing.
