<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device of side surface emitting type which has a configuration capable of improving light use efficiency and easy wire bonding. <P>SOLUTION: The light-emitting device of side surface emitting type, surface-mounted on a wiring board, includes: a lead member having a light-emitting element, a light-emitting element mount portion mounted with the light-emitting element and a bonding portion wire-bonded to the light-emitting element; and a base portion which the lead member is inserted thereto and has a reflector surrounding a long sideways rectangular region, including the light-emitting element mount portion of the lead member and the bonding portion of the lead member, in a peripheral direction. A side surface of the reflector in the longitudinal direction includes a first reflecting surface facing the light-emitting element mount portion of the lead member and a second reflecting surface facing the bonding portion of the lead member.
