An electronic-ticket update device in one embodiment updates the validity period of an electronic ticket that has an updatable validity period and is stored on a recording medium that also stores electronic money that is used for payment when the electronic ticket is not valid. Said electronic-ticket update device is provided with an identification unit and a computation unit. The identification unit: compares electronic-money payment information obtained from a storage unit with services for which the electronic ticket can be used; and identifies which, of payments incurred between the end of the pre-update validity period of the electronic ticket and the present time, would not have been incurred if the electronic ticket had been valid. The computation unit performs processing in order to retroactively apply the start point of the post-update validity period so as to alleviate at least some of the monetary burden of the payments identified by the identification unit.
