The engine has an intercooler (5) arranged in an air intake tract (2) of an engine block (1), and an exhaust gas return line (4) extending from an exhaust gas tract (3) of the engine to the air intake tract. An oxygen sensor (6) is designed as a lambda probe and arranged in the air intake tract for acquisition of exhaust gas recirculation rate. The sensor is arranged in an air intake direction relative to the intercooler. A monolithic block is formed from yttrium-stabilized zirconium dioxide ceramics without a multi-layer structure and a diffusion hole and comprises a measuring chamber.
