The present invention provides a cell with which the stress during the reaction is alleviated by a primary layer and a tendency toward deformation of the negative electrode is thereby avoided; the silicon oxide-rich surface part and lithium directly and quickly react and side reaction during the charge-discharge cycle is thereby controlled; and it is easy to handle the negative electrode during cell production. The present invention relates to a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrode, wherein the negative electrode contains a negative electrode active substance that is deposited on the surface of a negative electrode collector; the negative electrode active substance layer contains a carbon material capable of occlusion and release of lithium and a silicon oxide represented by SiOx (0.5 < x < 1.5); the negative electrode active substance layer has a silicon oxide compound-rich surface part and a carbon material-rich primary layer; and the percentage of silicon oxide that accounts for the total of the carbon material and the silicon oxide in the surface part is 50 mass% or greater. |
