The invention relates to a method of treating sodium-bearing waste effluents enriched with organic and/or inorganic sulphur compounds, originating from petroleum-fraction processing, comprising the steps of recirculating said effluent in at least one electrolysis reactor comprising boron-doped diamond electrodes, and of recovering an effluent depleted in said organic and/or inorganic sulphur compounds, when the contents obtained from said organic and/or inorganic sulphur compounds do not substantially affect a subsequent biological treatment.
