PURPOSE: A device for inputting a point of interest in a map service using an image recognition technology and a method thereof are provided to automatically input a point of interest displayed on a map into a map on a mobile terminal, thereby enabling a user to input a point of interest more conveniently and simply. CONSTITUTION: A candidate image extraction part (233) extracts a candidate image corresponding to a received map image based on extracted characteristic points and the characteristic points of pre-stored map images. A map information providing part (235) provides map information of the candidate image to a user terminal in order to display the extracted candidate image on the user terminal. A marker recognition part (236) recognizes the location of a marker in the received map image.
