<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy, an aluminum alloy wire, an aluminum alloy stranded wire, a covered electric wire, and a wire harness all having high toughness and high electrical conductivity; and a method of manufacturing an aluminum alloy wire. <P>SOLUTION: The aluminum alloy wire includes: 0.005-2.2 mass% of Fe; and a remainder Al with impurities. The aluminum alloy wire may further include 0.005-1.0 mass% in total of at least one additive element selected from Mg, Si, Cu, Zn, Ni, Mn, Ag, Cr, and Zr. The Al alloy wire has an electrical conductivity of ≥58% IACS and an elongation of ≥10%. The Al alloy wire is manufactured through the successive steps of casting, rolling, wire drawing, and softening treatment. The softening treatment is performed to provide excellent toughness such as elongation and impact resistance, and consequently, fracture of the electric wire occurring in the vicinity of a terminal portion when the wire harness is installed can be reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
