PURPOSE: A dish washer and a control method thereof are provided to smoothly discharge bubbles produced when generating steam and reduce noise during the steam generating process. CONSTITUTION: A dish washer comprises a tub, a washing water spray nozzle, a sump, a pump, a heater, and a steam spray nozzle. The sump includes a filter mounting part in which a filter is installed in a washing water inflow path connected to the tub so that washing water sprayed into the tub is collected to the sump after being filtered. The inside of the sump accommodating washing water is divided so that generated steam separately flows to the steam spray nozzle and the filter mounting part. The operation and pause of the pump are repeated while the heater is operated for generating steam.
