PURPOSE: An error detector of an incremental encoder is provided to objectively grasp whether a motor malfunctions or not, deliver a warning message to a user, and help a safety operation by suggesting a solution plan. CONSTITUTION: An error detector(200) of an incremental encoder includes a first input unit(210) which obtains the phase information of the A phase signal of the incremental encoder; a second input unit(220) which obtains the phase information of the B phase signal of the incremental encoder; and an error determining unit(230) which determines an encoder output signal as an error if a phase of a signal continuously maintains a low or high state in case a phase of another signal of the A phase signal or the B phase signal performs a phase shift of rising→lowering→rising or lowering→rising→lowering.
