<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent bar code read sounds of adjacent POS terminals that are working from becoming the same when a working POS terminal is stopped or a stopped POS terminal starts working. <P>SOLUTION: A bar code read sound control system 1 includes a plurality of POS terminals 2 and a POS server 3. In the POS terminal 2, when starting/stopping working, a start/stop notification part 4 notifies the POS server 3, and when a sound setting control part 5 receives a notification of sound updating, a sound selection part 7 selects a sound value stored in a sound value storage part 6, and the sound is outputted from a speaker 9. Also, when the sound is changed, a sound change notification part 8 notifies an operator.
