A biometric information processing apparatus comprises: a biometric information acquisition unit that generates a biometric image that indicates biometric information of a plurality of fingers of a user; a biometric section extraction unit that extracts biometric sections that contain biometric information of each of the plurality of fingers within the biometric image; an inter-biometric-section distance calculation unit that obtains a first distance between biometric sections corresponding to two adjacent fingers among the plurality of fingers; and an opening angle estimation unit that estimates the opening angle between the two adjacent fingers, according to the ratio between a value obtained as a result of subtracting the gap between the bases of the two adjacent fingers from the first distance, and the length from the base of one of the two adjacent fingers to the position of the biometric information of that finger.
