The invention provides a computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for causing a computer to perform steps comprising: monitoring memory accesses performed by a central processing unit to detect that a guest being emulated has made a self modification to a code sequence of the guest (344); and taking an appropriate action based on detection of the self modification to the code sequence (346).
