PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery whereof safety is enhanced when it is abnormally heated while suppressing deterioration of energy density as much as possible, and a battery separator capable of forming this battery. SOLUTION: This battery separator is composed of a fibrous material which is not substantially deformed at at least 150°C, and a porous film having an inorganic particle which is not substantially deformed at at least 150°C, and the number of particles having particle diameters of 3μm or less and the number of particles having particle diameters of 1μm or more are 10% or more of the total number of the inorganic particles respectively.
