A plurality of video signal frames are captured using a camera (102 in fig. 1), and the video signal is transmitted as an encoded bit stream (109). Displacement of the camera between successive frames is determined from a motion indication (e.g. motion vectors or samples from a motion sensor associated with the camera) in the bit stream. The determined displacement (203) is used to compensate for motion in the video signal between successive frames caused by camera motion, thereby stabilising the video signal. Using the determined displacement to compensate for motion can comprise filtering (205) the displacement between two frames and shifting (207) the image of at least one of the frames in accordance with the filtered displacement. Shifting of the image can comprise adjusting a pointer and width value without adjusting the stride value indicating memory space of the image. |
