Described is an express chill system for a household refrigerator, which comprises an express chill compartment located within the freezing chamber of the refrigerator and opened by the front portion thereof; an abatable access cap designed specially for closing, in a convenient manner, said front opened portion of the express chill compartment; said cap has a mechanism of the camshaft-follower type, which would be set in a closed position at the moment of performing the express chill operation in order to create a closed chamber within said compartment; the cap remains in an opened position when no express chill operation is performed, so that the cap being adjacent and parallel to the upper wall of the freezing chamber; a control panel or user interface is arrange at the outer portion of the refrigerator; where the system performs the express chill operation by means of an operation method that includes the following steps: selecting the express chill function from the control panel as well as the interval of time desired to maintain active said function; verifying that no other additional special function of the refrigerator is active; checking if the compressor is turned on or off once the function of express chill is activated; activating an acoustic and/or visual alarm once the selected interval of time has passed and allowing the refrigerator to return to its normal operation in accordance with the temperature of the cut of the normal operation cycle; verifying that the temperature in the inner portion of the refrigerator is under the temperature of the cut of the normal operation cycle; turning the compressor and the fan off.
