PURPOSE: A system and a method for setting the position of an actuator in an automatic manual transmission are provided to sense the displacement of a forward and backward actuator without an absolute position sensor through a displacement detection sensor mounted inside the forward and backward actuator. CONSTITUTION: A system for setting the position of an actuator in an automatic manual transmission comprises a displacement detection sensor unit(10), a rotation detection sensor unit(20), and a control unit(30). The displacement detection sensor unit senses the displacement of a forward and backward actuator. The rotation detection sensor unit senses the rotational direction of a mission gear which changes the rotational direction along with the position of the forward and backward actuator. The control unit controls the operation of a clutch actuator in order to smoothly change speed according to the position of the forward and backward actuator.
