<p>The invention is a frame generation method in an optical transmission system that transmits a transmission frame configured of: a payload area that stores information data; and an FEC redundant area that stores an error correction code for the information data. An encoding gain is computed (S2) on the basis of the quality of a communication path on which the transmission frame is to be transmitted. If on the basis of the encoding gain, it is assessed that the error correction code stored in the FEC redundant area will result in insufficient redundancy, a variable parity area that stores the error correction code in the payload area is set (S4), and a transmission frame is generated that stores the error correction code in the FEC redundant area and the variable parity area.</p> |
