<p>A stairlift has a seat 14 to support a user 20 and to resist movement of the user 20 from a back edge 25 to a front edge 24 of the seat 14 together with a footrest 16 spaced from the seat 14 such that the knees 27 of a user 20 seated upon the seat 14 with their feet on the footrest 16 would define an included angle greater than 90°. At least part of the front edge 24 of the seat 14 may be higher than the rear edge 25, the higher part being accommodated between the legs of a user and forming a pommel 30. The seat 14 may be displaced such that its front edge 24 is lowered relative to its rear edge 25. The angle included by the knees 27 may be between 95° and 165°. The seat 14 may be formed from materials with different densities and may include indentations 36 to receive the ischial tuberosities of a user. The seat 14 may include a backrest 17 and an armrest 18. The seat 14 may reduce flexure of the knee joints 17 and may reduce the intrusion of the passenger 20 into a stairway.</p> |
