<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the total throughput when reading a pattern in a plurality of rows sequentially. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet on which a pattern is formed in a plurality of rows is conveyed toward downstream at least until an area having the formed pattern reaches an area to be dried by a drying unit. Subsequently, with respect to the pattern, reading for each row included in the plurality of rows and step-feeding of the sheet toward upstream are repeated.
