<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator which is improved in freshness preservation performance and ease of use in addition to energy saving performance. <P>SOLUTION: The refrigerator has a cooler which cools a storage room, a defrosting unit 68 which defrosts the cooler, a storage amount estimating unit 23 which estimates a storage amount within the storage room, a storing unit 64 which stores an estimation result of the storage amount estimating unit 23, a calculation controlling unit 22 which calculates a storage change amount based on a previous estimation result in the storing unit 64 and the estimation result of the storage amount estimating unit 23 and controls an output operation of the defrosting unit 68, wherein the calculation controlling unit 22 controls an interval of the next operation of the defrosting unit 68 from a calculation result of the storage change amount within the storage room.
