The printing cylinder (4) may carry two foil printing plates (7) on cylindrical portions of its outside surface (9). The foils are smooth on their sides facing the roller and are roughened on their outer sides. The foils may be less than 0.3 mm in thickness. - A modified edge (8) of each plate may be gripped by a rotatable gripping element (5) engaging a fixed jaw (6) in a recess in the roller. A second roller (2) is covered with a rubber blanket (3) whose edges may be held by clamps in a recess. The rubber blanket may came into contact with a cylindrical pressure roller (1).
