PURPOSE: An organic electroluminescent device is provided to improve properties such as light emitting efficiency, driving voltage, lifetime, and color purity. CONSTITUTION: An iridium(III) complex is denoted by chemical formula 1. The iridium(III) complex is selected among compounds of chemical formulas 2-6. An organic electroluminescent device comprises an anode, a cathode, and one or more organic layers inserted between the anode and the cathode. One or more organic layers contain the compound. The compound is used as a dopant of a light emitting layer.
