The device has a protection zone determination module (104) for determining a protection zone, and an accelerometer (101) for determining the acceleration of equipment. A location determination module (102) determines the current location of the equipment from the acceleration, and a relative location determination module (103) determines the location of the equipment from the protection zone. An alarm module (105) provides an alert and/or erases stored data (106) and/or destructs physical elements (107) of the equipment when the equipment is outside of the protection zone. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting the exit of the equipment in a protection zone.
