<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seatbelt retractor having a pawl and a return spring which can be attached to a side wall part of a housing to improve efficiency of assembling. <P>SOLUTION: A seatbelt retractor includes: a ratchet gear which is inserted in a through-hole formed in one side wall 12 of a housing and which rotates together with a winding drum; a pawl 23 which has one end turnably mounted on the inner peripheral edge on the axial inside of the through-hole and which turned in response to a change in acceleration of a vehicle or a drawing acceleration of a webbing to engage an engagement tooth formed at the other end of the pawl with the ratchet gear; and a return spring for rotating and pressing the pawl 23 in a direction separating from the ratchet gear.
