<p>The receiver has a luminous element which is switched ON or OFF at regular time intervals based on output of pulse generator. A photosensitive element (7) is positioned in front of an image display panel (1) through an optical fiber (6). A measuring unit (4) is provided to measure a parameter of the ambient light incident on the photosensitive element, when the luminous element is switched off. A control unit (5) is provided to generate a control signal based on a measured value so that the brightness of the light emitted by a backlight unit (2) is controlled.
