<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acoustic touch apparatus based on surface acoustic waves. <P>SOLUTION: An acoustic touch apparatus comprises: a substrate 5 having a first surface 15 and a second surface 10 which are capable of propagating surface acoustic waves, where the second surface comprises a touch region and the first and second surfaces are coupled via a rounded connecting surface; at least one acoustic wave transducer 35 on the first surface; and at least one reflective array 40 on the first surface. The transducer transmits/receives surface acoustic waves to/from the reflective array. The substrate and the reflective array can acoustically couple surface acoustic waves to propagate between the first and second surfaces. Surface acoustic waves passing through a point of touch causes a loss of energy. This appears as an attenuation of the surface acoustic waves and is detected by a receiving transducer as a perturbation in the surface acoustic wave signal.
