In an extrusion-blow moulding apparatus, a plurality of single cavity moulds 8, 108 and their associated blowing nozzles 32 are mounted on a rotatable carrier 6. The carrier is rotated continuously to bring the moulds below the extruder 9 to receive the extrudate, the mould being opened in advance by a toggle mechanism 15, 17 actuated by a rotating cam 19 and, at the same time, a cam 41 on the extruder head engages a roller 40 to move the blowing nozzle 32 away from the mould. The mould halves 8, 108 close on the extrudate under the pressure of the springs 24 and the blowing nozzle 32 is returned to the mould by springs, the mould closing movement being braked by a dashpot device. Air is supplied to the blow nozzle to effect expansion of the tube, the blowing nozzle again retracted and, on opening of the mould, the article drops out. The retraction of the nozzle may be delayed so that the article is ejected by an air blast from the nozzle. The articles may fall into a delivery funnel.</p> |
