This power converter (50) has the following operating modes: a first operating mode in which switching elements (S1 to S4) are each turned on or off individually and power conversion is performed between a load (30) and both a first DC power supply (10) and a second DC power supply (20); and a second operating mode in which the switching elements (S1 to S4) are turned on or off two at a time and power conversion is performed between the load (30) and either the first DC power supply (10) or the second DC power supply (20). The turn-on and turn-off switching speeds of the switching elements (S1 to S4) are controlled in accordance with the operating mode. Specifically, the switching speed in the second operating mode is higher than the switching speed in the first operating mode.
