<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet and a manufacturing method of the permanent magnet capable of reducing in advance the carbon content of magnetic particles before sintering, preventing the generation of void between a main phase and a grain boundary phase of the magnet after sintering, and densely sintering the entire magnet, even when wet grinding is employed. <P>SOLUTION: Coarsely pulverized magnetic powder is pulverized in an organic solvent by a bead mill, and then calcination processing in hydrogen is performed by holding a molded body obtained by powder compaction at 200°C-900°C for several hours in a hydrogen atmosphere pressurized to a higher pressure than the ambient pressure.
