[Class 144 (ii)] A pneumatic tyre comprises upper sheets or breaker strips of rubber having embedded therein metal wires or other non-extensible members as of plastic material or glass, which adhere to rubber, said wires being disposed with respect to one another, parallel to at least three different directions. Figs. 1 and 2 show a tyre carcase 1 having on its outside, wired sheets 2A, 2B, 2C, extending for the width of a tread band 3. Each upper sheet comprises wires parallel to each other and disposed in a direction different with respect to the other two sheets. The wires of any two sheets may be inclined symmetrically about a longitudinal crosssection at an angle ranging between 17 and 28 degrees or 60 and 75 degrees, and the wires of the third sheet may be inclined to said longitudinal cross-section at an angle ranging between 45 and 90 degrees or 8 and 20 degrees respectively. More than three outer sheets may be used. Increased flexibility of the tyre side walls is given by providing textile radiallythreaded carcase sheets 4 (Fig. 3) which may extend wholly or partly across the tyre below the upper sheets or breaker strips 2 and wherein the threads lie parallel to a transverse crosssection of the tyre, the sheets being doubled back around bead rods 5 and extended to a point 6 below the upper sheets 2. The ends of the carcase sheet may be inwards or outwards of the main part of the sheet. The tyre beads may be reinforced as shown in Figs. 6, 7, by folding the threads 4 of the carcase sheet over a bead rod 10 so that portions 11, 12 of the threads lie obliquely on either side of the rod. Alternatively a separate sheet of textile threads or wires, may be folded over the rod 10 in the manner shown by the portions 11, 12. |
