A semi-conducting power rectifier is cooled by providing a circulating air duet in the casing and mounting a cooling device in the air duct. In the embodiment (Fig. 2) air is drawn in through an opening 3 in a partition within a rectifier casing by a fan 2 and, after passing through the power rectifier system 1, is forced through a further opening 4 and through a water cooled device 5. A pressure equalizing arrangement 7 is provided formed by a U-tube containing liquid with its outer limb of greater capacity than the inner limb. The rate of water flow in the air cooler 5 may be controlled by a valve in the water supply (Fig. 4, not shown) controlled by a heat sensitive element disposed in the air stream within the duct. |
