PURPOSE: A ballast system for a ship is provided to improve the safety of workers in a trial run and maintenance and to reduce trial running or maintenance costs. CONSTITUTION: A ballast system for a ship comprises multiple pumps(121,122), a main pipe(130), a first branch pipe, a second branch pipe(142), and control valves(151,152). The multiple pumps supplies or discharges seawater into/from a ballast tank(110). The main pipe is connected to the pumps and is extended to stem and stern directions. The first branch pipe is branched from the main pipe into a first seawater tank of the ballast tank. The second branch pipe is branched from the main pipe into a second seawater tank of the ballast tank. Part of the second branch pipe is branched from the main pipe into the first seawater tank. The control valves are mounted on the first and second branch pipes and controls the flow of the seawater supplied to or discharged from the first and second seawater tanks.
