<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input system in which it is possible to easily grasp which type of operation is used to convert a reference character to what kind of character, and to easily learn an input method, and to reduce the restriction of button arrangement. <P>SOLUTION: As shown with a broken line in (d), the surface of a display part is traced just as a circle is drawn two times. When a reference character key "WA(Japanese syllabary)" is touched, the background color of "WA" becomes white, and when the surface of the display part is traced to a position shown with a solid line in (e), a contact moving direction is determined to "left", "up", and "right" in order from the touched position.
