The present document relates to driver circuits for solid state light bulb assemblies and, in particular, for light bulb assemblies including light emitting diodes. A driver circuit (112) for a solid state light source (6) is described. The driver circuit (112) comprises a first power converter stage (20) configured to convert an input voltage (11) into an intermediate voltage (128); a second power converter stage (22) configured to convert the intermediate voltage (128) into a drive voltage (15) for the light source (6); and a controller (100). The controller (100) comprises a first control unit (130) configured to generate a first control signal (26) for the first power converter stage (20); a second control unit (124) configured to generate a second control signal (28) for the second power converter stage (22); and a state control unit (101) configured to determine a target state of the light source (6); wherein the first and second control units (130, 124) are configured to receive information (162, 163) indicative of the target state; and wherein the first and second control units (130, 124) are configured to generate the first and second control signals (26, 28) based on the information (162, 163) indicative of the target state. |
