<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To purge accumulated water in bipolar plate flow channels of a fuel cell without motive power from an air compressor or the like and without reducing inlet humidification. <P>SOLUTION: An embodiment comprises a bipolar plate of a fuel cell and a hydrophilic coating containing nanoparticles having hydrophilic side chains formed over at least a portion of bipolar plate flow channels. The nanoparticles have sizes ranging from 2 to 100 nm. The hydrophilic side chains include at least one of amino, sulfonate, sulfate, sulfite, sulfonamide, sulfoxide, carboxylate, polyol, polyether, phosphate, and phosphonate groups. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
