A computer-implemented method comprising, adding, to a project pane of a digital media editing interface in response to receiving a first user input, a overlay content segment as at least a portion of a media project; receiving selection of a content synchronization point within a video content segment, the video content segment represented within the project pane as at least a portion of the media project; receiving selection of a overlay synchronization point within the overlay content segment; and anchoring the content synchronization point with the overlay synchronization point to correlate playback of a point in time within the video content segment associated with the content synchronization point with a point in time within the overlay content segment associated with the overlay synchronization point.
