<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component for an artificial hip joint that can surely touch a shell and a liner at a desired position, can control the displacement of the liner, and can control the breakage of the liner. <P>SOLUTION: The component 1 for the artificial hip joint includes: the shell 2 that has a hollow section 2a being set up in an acetabular cup 100a of a pelvis 100; a liner 3 that is engaged with the inside of the shell 2 and has a hollow section 3a. An inside surface of 202 of the shell 2 has a first taper facing surface 205. An outside surface of 301 of the liner 3 has a second taper facing surface 305 opposed to the first facing surface 205. A toroidal depressed portion 309 is formed at least on at least one of the first facing surface 205 and the second facing surface 305.
