[Also in Division B8] A bottom loading system for tank trucks (see Division B8) includes a manifold (60), Fig. 3 (not shown), having a plurality of ports (61-64) sealed by valves (70) held in a closed position by springs (77), and opened by the application of air pressure to a chamber (100). In order to bleed-off the pressure in the manifold before moving a valve poppet 73 of its seat 79, the valve stem 72 is slidably extended through the poppet and threaded to receive a wing nut member 90 and a nylon lock washer 91. When the valve is closed, the member 90 seats on a shoulder 98. On opening the valve, the member 90 is moved forward, prior to the poppet being moved, allowing any pressure to bleed-off through a keyway 95 in the stem 72. A shoulder 93 on the stem then engages a shoulder 94 on the poppet and moves the poppet from the valve seat. Each valve is stabilized in the open position by an extension 75 of its stem 72 entering a hole (131) in a spider (130), in the centre of the manifold.</p> |
